	.Excerpt from The Day, August 21, 2005 “Get Your Fun on Route ONE : Antiquing in Clinton & Westbrook ...on the same side of the street is MiRiAMGREEN Antiquarian Bookshop & Gallery (88 East Main). Owned for nine years by Susan Alon, a certified appraiser and former Yale curator, she has written extensively about art and antiques. The shop is tidy and upscale. Housed in an old garage in the Historic District, the 1600 sq feet shop is filled floor to ceiling and the gallery displays many Connecticut artists, in addition to antique prints, maps, and photographs. The garage bay is when open provides an outdoor view to the back patio with garden furniture. Alon, whose middle name is Miriam, is firstly a rare book expert, and the collections concentrate on scholarly titles printed before 1900. But when asked what her speciality was Susan replied “Research, I specialize in research. Clients and dealers often bring objects to identify and appraise. As a retired curator both at Yale and Washington University in St Louis, I have gathered eclectic collections, layer upon layer, that please my aesthetics. MiRiAMGREEN is my life after academia, or if you prefer, adult day care. It is an atmosphere rather than a shop, lined with books, bronzes, statutes, and cabinets full of distracting curiosities. But perhaps the most entertaining draw for customers are her resident Persian cats who greet customers, and her Airedale Duncan. Susan’s greeting to customers is the same: if you need help ask, otherwise she practices benign neglect, all things are negotiable and the longer you browse the better the negotiation. The shop is open year round with a constantly changing inventory.
